We watched the movie "Guilt Trip" and were told to make psychological connections with the main characters in the movie, Barbara Streissand and Seth Rogen. This movie is filled with a lot of psychological problems that people in their late adulthood face and people in adulthood face. The mother throughout this movie seems to struggle the most with wanting love from her son. You can see her obvious case of Empty Nest Syndrome that she faces with her son. She only sees him about once a year and she wants to care for him more. He gets annoyed easily with her and won't answer her calls and takes a long time to respond to her.
When the two finally meet up you can see their differing personalities. He wants to be independent and make his life decisions and she just wants to guide him and love on him as much as she can. The son (Seth Rogen) realizes that there is a chance to make his mother happy again and he takes it. He wants her to find love with someone else and focus the love that's on him to someone else. He plans a trip with her saying that he really needs her help when he doesn't, he just wants to spark her old romantic interest up again.
The two get in a lot of fights throughout the movie. Seth Rogen yells at his mother multiple times for trying to control him. And I don't think he wants thisdFor example, when he was drinking alcohol to get over his failed sales and his mother was trying to take care of him and tell him to hydrate. He yells and says no because he is an adult and wants to make decisions for his health by himself. By yelling at her he turn his mother to alcohol and realizes he has done wrong.
By the end of this movie they both realize the mistakes they have made. She realizes that she was too much for him to handle with her caring so much and he realizes that she does what she does because she cares and loves him so so much. At the end of this movie I think she gets over her empty nest and the relationship between the two is a lot tighter.
